NEWS FROM AROUND THE CONFEDERATION
Year 2956 - Quarter 2 - Issue 2956.2 - Build 4.8.0
Good Day Citizens,
A strong start of the year on the legislative side as we've cemented and clarified several ambiguous elements of the constitution, We've formed a non-aggression pact with the People's Alliance of Nyx and we are now defining what scope of activities that our government should spent more of it's limited resources on (or expand upon). As we all know, much as the environment of the vers we live in, the United Space Confederation is also constantly in a state of evolution. Every day we are growing together and we are truly, one step at a time, making this nation of ours stronger and truer to our values.
I would like to take this opportunity to mention that the Senate is "your" forum for change or discourse. Often the Legislation and topic brought to the floor are initiated by Cabinet or the Chancellor (from discussions in private or inspired from conversations and experiences had in the vers' with fellow citizens.) But Indeed any of you are empowered to bring a topic forward to be debated and voted upon.
Should you have any proposal or piece of potential legislation that you would like to debate, I invite you to discuss it openly in usc-official or alternatively as a private message to myself and let us see how we can move the initiative forward. Should it be relevant, feasible and executable (or at the very least entertaining) You might be the proud author of your own piece of legislation that passes a vote in Senate. Therefore, leaving your very own mark on the USC for the success of all.
May the stars always shine in our favor,
For Equality, Prosperity and Freedom
Sincerely,
Caylen Vyshir
Chancellor of the Senate

IN-GAME, COMMUNITY OR USC CELEBRATIONS
Day of the Vara is a holiday celebrated in the United Empire of Earth (UEE) annually on October 27th. The holiday involves public festivals adorned with decorations in black and green and private gatherings convened to remember and honor the dead.
Celebrants dress up as people who have passed away or in other costumes and swap scary stories, especially pertaining to mysterious incidents in space. It is seen by Humans as a day that gives equal weight to the joy of life and the macabre.

The origins of the IAE trace back to the desolate plains of Castor, within the Corel system. Audrey Timmerman, an avid spacecraft enthusiast, orchestrated the first assembly of likeminded pioneers for test flights and technical exchange. Inspired by her stint in the Navy, where she encountered Xi’an technology, Timmerman sought to push the boundaries of spacecraft engineering.
The inaugural flight of her experimental ship, Poby, was a setback rather than a success, yet it ignited a tradition that would endure through centuries. Despite a power surge disabling several of Poby’s thrusters, the event set the stage for what would become the universe’s foremost aerospace exhibition. Over the following years, local businessman Steffon Dillard recognized the potential of the gathering, sponsoring it and branding it as the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo. This pivotal partnership marked the beginning of the event’s transformation from a grassroots meeting to a formalized showcase.

January 9th 2949 is the day the USC ratified its original constitution, officially resolving to call Terra home and formulate the current structure of the government and our society as a collection of independent contractors offering out of our own volition, "time, talent and treasure" for the betterment of our society.
Constitution day is usually spent with family and friends. Also, although citizens can do this at any time in the year, It is customary on this day to write a letter to a citizen's constituent senators to make sure that his family's wishes and concerns are properly voiced at the Senate. Citizens also sometimes take the opportunity to participate in various community volunteer activities demonstrating the USC's citizens willingness to support each other in times of need.

Operation Black Horizon: Story-Themed Event
A special story-themed event was hosted and organised by our very own Rotorgeist. The story centred around a missing MIE ship, the Black Horizon, which had disappeared while on a secret mission.
Event attendees had to determine the location of the lost ship before setting out to recover it and its valuable cargo. Along the way, the group encountered several obstacles, but in the end, they successfully found the ship and retrieved its cargo.
This was the first instalment of many more story events to come, and we certainly look forward to seeing what comes next.
Rayari Rep Events
A special spotlight goes to our member WormingMood, who organised several events to help other members increase their reputation with Rayari. These events helped members get closer to acquiring the valuable blueprints locked behind higher-reputation Rayari missions.
Thanks to these efforts, many members were able to raise their Rayari reputation and unlock new blueprints.
Crafting Parties
RidgeSix organised crafting parties to allow all Citizens to share their blueprints and resources while working together to craft larger and more advanced components, armour, and weapons.
Many people have already acquired blueprints, but not everyone has access to the same ones. By working together, members can combine their knowledge and resources to craft more effectively. Valuable resources can be scarce, but by sharing them, we can achieve much more as a community.
Daymar Mile of Mayhem – Large Multi-Org Event
Thanks to increased diplomatic outreach, the USC organised and participated in a large cross-organisational racing event for the first time in its history. Four organisations took part: the United Space Confederation, the Cosmic Coalition, the G.W.E Gang, and the Elysian Alliance. Altogether, 11 teams came to the starting line.
It was a fantastic event filled with fun, competition, and community spirit. In the end, three USC teams claimed all three top positions, taking home a variety of fun and special prizes.
Dear Citizens,
Moving forward, the Chancellor of the USC will formally announce the appointment of newly minted leaders so all members (aka Senators) are made aware.
2Q2956 SENATE VOTES
March:
This month we are doing things a bit differently as we look forward to a fresh patch dropping, we would like to take this chance to poll our citizen's general interests on what kind of activities keeps up their interests. This may inspire our event planners or perhaps give a fresh light on some past activities that were fruitful and engaging. A group such as ourselves thrives on activity thus polls like this are important to take note of what invigorates our citizens in SC.
In the question below we will offer a list of past events that were done in the past, please select your favorite(s) top 3 (Multiple votes will be possible).
Question: From the list below, which activity(ies) do you enjoy the most? (Please pick one, two or three but not more to keep the statistics relevant.)
1) Casual Fleet Meetups
2) Group Mining/Salvaging Events
3) Large events, "focused", related to in game missions (i.e. Hathor),
4) Large events, "casual", related to in game events (alliance aid missions)
5) Ad hoc groups formed with pings (@ Flight)
6) Organized "Focused" Racing Events such as participating the the Daymar Rally
7) PVP Focused, Org Vs Org Planed events
8) PVP Focused, Adhoc Bounty hunting
9) "Chained", Story driven/narrated RP events.
10) Other, (the add voting option will be active)
Results:
Thanks to all whom have contributed to this latest topic and helped us gain some new insights into what our citizens enjoy doing with us. The main take away, If you may permit me to cut right to the chase, is that in fact the USC appears to be quite successful in providing a wide and appealing array of compelling activities that cater to many different citizen's interests.
Of note the top three activities were:
1) Large events, "focused", related to in game missions (i.e. Hathor) with 27.85% of votes.
2) Large events, "casual", related to in game events (alliance aid missions) with 16.46%
3) Group Mining/Salvaging Events with 13.9% of votes.
To be fair however the results were very spread out at it was nice to see interest is all proposed activities.
May these results serve to reinforce the currently popular event types and also help point to those which might need a bit more assistance to make them compelling.
I wish you all a great day and which you best regards,
Caylen
May the stars always shine in our favor.
As most of you may know, several key positions in our cabinet (our executive branch of government) remains vacant. It may take some time to find the right candidates to fill these roles given the necessary trust and seniority needed but today, however, I am here to announce to you that someone has stepped up for the Role of Minister of Interstellar Commerce
Our current sitting Prime minister, @MaxwellStiles (UTC-5) , has passed a Cabinet vote for his nomination and thus I am here to present his confirmation vote to the Senate.
Kindly permit me at this time to inform you of how the proceedings will unfold.
The vote will be Anonymous and will require a quorum of at least 30 Votes in order to be valid. A vote of at least 75% Approving is required to pass (Not counting abstentions)
You will have the choices as follows:
1) Approve
2) Disapprove
3) Abstain
Voting to Abstain does not count for or against but does count towards quorum.
The polls will open in one week's time (7 days) on April 20th 2956 around 1PM UTC and will close 2 weeks later (14days) on May 4th (May the fourth be with you).
I would like to remind everyone that a Minister position's confirmation vote is a pivotal one for the organization. May you base your votes on not only the acumen of the candidate but also what you feel is best for the Org.
Should Maxwell Stiles be voted in as Minister of MIC, He will no longer hold the title of Prime Minister and will begin his tenure as the Minister of Interstellar Commerce thus only have one vote in Cabinet.
Seeing there be only 2 months left to the Prime Ministerial Term, the seat will remain vacant till the term is over on June 30th.
Results:
Without beating around the bush, please permit me to announce that we officially now have a minister of Interstellar Commerce!
With an approval rate of 91.6% (not counting Abstentions) Kindly join me in congratulating @MaxwellStiles (UTC-5) on his new role.
His countless contributions in the areas of event planning as well as mission coordination has earned him a well deserved reputation as a person that can successfully focus our members to action.
We look forward to seeing MIC grow into it's own under his leadership and take it's full place as central hub of activity within the USC.
I wish you all a great day and stay tuned here in about one week for this month's Senate Topic.
Best Regards,
Caylen
In the past few months you may have noted the leaps and strides that our brilliant engineering minds from the Ministry of Engineering and Support have made in the fields of manufacturing and fabrication. The USC has shown yet again it's ability to adapt as well as be on the cutting edge of Science and Technology. A special shout out to Director RidgeSix and the Office of Industrial Engineering as well as all of our enthusiast engineering crafters and Manufacturers who's progress has been extraordinary!
As we bask in this shared success we must take a step back and contemplate where else to improve our processes to that we can capitalize on this momentum. Please permit me to voice that Manufacturing and Crafting stands not at the beginning nor the end of a broader process but at it's core and middle.
To cut to the chase, Crafting requires a steady stream of Input materials and once the output items/equipment are crafted and produced, they must be stored, inventoried and kept in a place where they can be readily distributed, sold or otherwise consumed by the people that require them. The gathering, stockpiling of raw resources, crafting and storing of the end products are currently for the most part done by the same people... yet, there might be some people that are only truly interested in part of this process. The Mining of raw resources for instance, or perhaps the hauling of end produce to sell on the open Market. We should be looking for ways so that these disparate activities becomes part of a formal communal process.
The idea here is not a new one, and indeed we do have in our org structure the establishment of a Confederation Store House. The keen of you might see where this discussion leads. let us turn our attention now to the Ministry of Interstellar Commerce's Treasury who's is its responsibility to store, assign and distribute the USC's stock piles of Monies, Raw resources, Equipment and Assets.
As our crafters and manufactures take a victory lap, we have not been given the tools necessary to take this activity to the next level. To have a place where individual Miners, gatherers and salvagers can deposit their surplus raw materials, that can then be handed and consumed by our Manufacturers to produce goods that can then also find their way to the Confederation Treasury to be allocated when and to whom it is most needed. Thus freeing this responsibility from the crafters/Manufacturers (if desired).
I hope that I have succeeded to explain the merits of setting up our Confederation treasury, Assuming I did so, we are faced the obvious problem that we do not have a system in place (i.e. an in game system) to keep and warehouse our organizational Assets. Seeing that crafting is now fast becoming a key activity, we must see if we can put in place the treasury with what we have.
Thus here is bluntly the question:
Question: Would you approve that a Key Custodian Person (or Persons) be designated to hold org assets for the purpose of stockpiling raw resources meant for crafting, selling or redistributing as well as storing surplus Equipment for selling, reprovisioning, or redistributing for the purpose of equipping our citizens for official organization activities?
NOTE: In principle we will try to observer the following points:
When our miners, gatherers, and salvagers have surplus materials they would like to donate to the org, it would go to Custodians with one of two store houses.
a.) If the material is useful for crafting with favorable quality, it would go to Custodian(s) within MES, to be managed and utilized for the sole purpose of crafting/manufacturing items to fulfill individual member crafting orders or to build an Org supply of useful items (components, weapons, etc.).
b.) If the material is not useful for crafting but could be for trading and/or selling, it would go to Custodian(s) within MIC, to be managed and utilized for the purpose of building USC wealth and operations.,
Once crafters within MES have utilized donated org supplies to manufacture items intended for Org use, but not specifically to fulfill an individual order, MES will transfer these assets to MIC Custodian(s) to manage and distribute.
MINISTRY ROUND UP
Twilly Frost
Ministry of Security Services
Greetings from the Ministry of Security Services!
It's been an odd quarter where combat is concerned, as CIG has turned their focus to crafting. Suddenly mining and hauling are popular, dogs are lying down with cats, it's raining upwards and all of my socks returned from the dryer.
Max left us to pursue a life of...whatever MIC does. Something to do with training cats to salsa dance.
Fear not! There is plenty of combat related activity in the near future. We'll be returning to Hathor for that sweet, sweet carinite.
We'll be setting up an event to run down the Vaughn missions for the Killshot blueprint.
Tactical strike group play is upon us, a quasi-combined arms event that will require a bit of planning and execution. Mister Stiles will be returning as if he never left to organize that event, as well as others, I'm sure. His first love is cats, closely followed by salsa dancing, but fleet operations will always have a place in his heart as a distant third.
Lots of changes to ship armor. Weapon damage. It's constantly changing, and will continue to change as CIG sorts out their vision for combat in the PU. At the MSS we're just along for the ride, chasing the meta and shamelessly ambushing you at choke points.
With the upcoming wipe the rush will be on to earn credits, gather materials, and craft craft craft. The MSS will be front and center building rep, earning credits, earning blueprints, and protecting our comrades as they gather, mine, and haul.
Gonna be interesting! And full of bugs! Let's gooooooooooooo!

Fellow citizens,
Q1 was the time of crafting and blueprint hunting for many of you, and we are glad to have seen such a great spirit of cross ministry collaboration and plenty MIE members going out and about to explore the verse again for old and new mission types.
We want to highlight a few initiatives from Q1 and give a special shoutout to one of our own MIE operatives, who hosted his first event in the USC.
Operation Black Horizon – designed and hosted by Rotorgeist - led citizens through a little Exploration tour through Pyro and did breathe some life into Survey-Gameplay.
We are already looking forward to more Roleplay focused events from Rotor and other citizens.
In addition, during Q1, USC Spec Ops operatives eliminated a series of threats in multiple Onyx facilities to equip ONI with critical crafting intel for state-of-the-art Stealth armour.
One if not the highlight for us this Quarter was the MIE & MSS collaboration in the structured USC Fleet Maneuvre to test the Navy’s preparedness for the upcoming Tactical Strike Group gameplay. Deployment, coordination and comms procedures were tested and are considered ready for larger scale engagements.
With 4.8 in deployment, MIE is already looking forward to turning our Carrack and 890 exploration vessels into even more competent and capable operation hubs, with proper refuel and rearm for smaller exploration fleets and events.

Hello everyone, an update from MIC.
Thanks to the introduction of ship hangar services, work has begun on testing the logistics of repair, refueling and rearming small craft onboard larger craft such as the Polaris and Idris. This will help engagements in systems such as Nyx go smoother as fighters will no longer have to take long detours after every mission or two to get ready for the next engagement as help will be in the field alongside them.
Behind the scenes work is in progress on setting up some racing events, with some racing initiatives being worked on by some members of our community behind the scenes, some of which may already be revealed by the time you see this newsletter.
The USC Central Bank remains very healthy thanks to the insane oversupply of aUEC in the verse, if you need credits, feel free to ping me in MIC-general.
Unfortunately, due to the oversupply of aUEC in the verse there is little incentive for commodity trading missions so those are mostly on hold until we get a wipe and have a need to get rich again.
That is all for now. May prosperity find us all!
The Minister of Commerce responsibilities are to:
Monitor USC in-game organizational finances, revenues and expenses
Provide a budget recommendation to the Cabinet each quarter, with allocations for each Ministry and the Navy for expenditures.
Oversee the USC Central Bank (USCCB)
Oversee the generation of Trade Convoy and Commodity Trading Missions.

Greetings from our favourite support crew in MES,
While the Ministry has had a brief revival with the appearance of the RSI Apollo ship line, the impact from the Regen Crisis seems barely noticeable for medical personnel. Medgel shortages have inflated the market and the cost of revivals has gone through the roof but we still haven't seen any significant increase in medical beacons or rescue requests. This does leave Siren and her team enough room to support all of our troops in the field on the various operations and expeditions that the USC has been launching lately.
As for Engineering and crafting, it seems to be a waiting game but the recent leaks have reopened the Hopium valves and the future looks quite promising with Engineering T0 being actively developed, hopefully we'll see some of it appear in the PU in 2026. I for one can't wait to be putting out fires, replacing fuses, fixing components and running around like a headless chicken trying to keep your capital ships up and running in the heat of battle.
Unfortunately our Director of Engineering, Shaka, has to step down due to real life priorities. So I want to use these few last lines to wish him the best and thank him for his great ideas. hopefully he'll be able to return to us at some point to continue working on his vision for an integrated Rapid Response unit.
See you out in the asteroid fields,
Dr. Daesang Zaen, minister of MES

Director Fallon "Siren" Carter
RSI Apollo Medivac & Apollo Triage Enter Service (ROLLOVER ARTICLE - DUE TO LACK OF MEDICAL GAMEPLAY UPDATES)
After much anticipation, Roberts Space Industries has officially rolled out the RSI Apollo Medivac and RSI Apollo Triage to the civilian and organizational fleets across the ‘verse. These long-awaited medical ships, renowned for their versatility, efficiency, and field-ready design, have now made their way into USC’s expanding medical division.
While the Apollo-class vessels have formally entered service, our USC fleet has only just begun receiving the first units from the latest production run. Each ship is undergoing extensive inspection and outfitting to ensure compliance with both USC standards and RSI’s advanced medical protocols. From hull integrity checks to medbay calibration, our engineering and medical teams are leaving nothing to chance.
However, full operational readiness will require additional funding and logistical support. These new vessels are state-of-the-art but demand substantial resources to stock, maintain, and crew effectively. Efforts are currently underway to secure the appropriate funding and MedGel supplies needed to ensure each Apollo is fully mission-ready, from triage stabilization kits to emergency evac supplies with both Tier 1 and Tier 2 facilities available.
Until then, the Apollo Medivac and Apollo Triage stand as symbols of USC’s unwavering commitment to life-saving response across the stars. Their arrival marks the next step in our ongoing mission: to bring hope and healing to even the most remote frontiers.
While the above ships represent a significant enhancement to USC’s field of medical capability, it is important to note that current assets are not yet fully mission-ready, so it is with my firmest belief that we need to ensure our members have the necessary trauma impact readiness and necessary pharmaceuticals on hand for all ongoing missions. Personnel are advised to familiarize themselves with each medication’s properties and proper application.
Primary Function: Hemostatic and Revitalization Agent
Hemozal is the frontline compound for treating active hemorrhage and critical trauma. It stops bleeding, restores patient health to their current maximum threshold, and can revive those in incapacitated states when administered promptly. Due to its potency, dosage regulation is essential to prevent circulatory shock.
Primary Function: Neuromuscular Stabilizer
Designed to relieve muscle fatigue and concussion symptoms, Dexematrine is recommended for personnel suffering from blunt-force trauma or extended exertion in the field. It promotes neurological clarity and muscular recovery, allowing soldiers to regain operational focus rapidly.
Primary Function: Motor Function Support Agent
Roxaphen is utilized to alleviate impairments affecting limb movement, particularly from fractures, sprains, or deep tissue injury. It reduces localized pain and inflammation, improving the patient’s mobility and dexterity for short-term operational readiness.
Primary Function: Respiratory and Muscular Recovery Agent
Sterogen mitigates symptoms caused by chest trauma, muscular weakness, and respiratory distress. Often paired with oxygen therapy, it stabilizes breathing and restores muscle efficiency following blunt or concussive impacts to the torso.
Primary Function: Biochemical Detoxification Agent
Resurgera serves to reduce Blood Drug Level (BDL) accumulation and counteract symptoms of overdose or toxic shock. It should be administered under controlled conditions, particularly in cases of multiple stimulant or painkiller use.
Primary Function: Anti-Radiation Compound
Canoiodide is the designated treatment for radiation exposure and contamination symptoms. It binds to harmful isotopes and assists the body in purging them through natural metabolic processes. Repeated doses may be required depending on exposure severity.
Medical Division Advisory:
All Apollo-class Medivac and Triage vessels are to maintain an adequate stock of the above compounds as part of their emergency inventory. Field medics are reminded that drug interactions remain a primary cause of treatment failure, administer with precision, and log all dosages to the ship’s medical record system.
Director Ridge Six
Hello, fellow citizens.
Operations have been very busy for the Office of Industrial Engineering as crafting has finally become a reality. A huge amount of effort were put in during 4.7 by several USC Crafters to acquire literally hundreds of blueprints for armor and weapons. USC Miners spent thousands of combined hours searching Stanton, Pyro, and Nyx for high-quality ores of various types to contribute to crafting. Overall, these operations were wildly successful! Dozens of armor pieces and weapons were crafted for members of the USC. Then the wipe occurred.
Now that 4.8 is here and we (fortunately) kept the blueprints we earned during 4.7, we have shifted our efforts to acquiring the new blueprints introduced with this patch. This includes many for ship components, salvage scraping modules, mining lasers, ship weapons, and refuel nozzles. Several of these are behind significant reputation walls, so much effort is being placed on grinding back reputation after the wipe. We are already enjoying much success with this, and I want to make a quick shoutout to Patholo, who dedicated many hours to earning Master rank with Covalex to earn several Military Grade A quantum drive blueprints already. The acquisition of blueprints will continue throughout 4.8 and involves completing missions across many areas of the 'verse, including salvage, mining, cargo hauling, refueling, ship combat, ground combat, and even Tactical Strike Groups.
Mining efforts are also underway within MES to obtain high-quality ores for crafting. We had a decent stockpile of ores immediately prior to the wipe, and we will be building that back as soon as we can. Understandably following a near-full wipe, progress in gathering refined ores has been slower. Group mining events will occur from time to time, and all are welcome to participate. Because of the refinery bonuses, it was decided that MIC-L5 Station is the home of USC crafting and MES storehouses during the 4.8 era. If miners have a surplus of refined ores that are useful for crafting (greater than 500 quality), and they would like to donate the ore to the USC for crafting, please reach out to me and we can make arrangements for transfer into the MIC-L5 storehouse.
Multiple events dedicated to crafting were held during the 4.7 era, and I intend to hold such events fairly regularly. These will occur at MIC-L5 once we have build up a storehouse of materials. However, special orders were also fulfilled many times outside of these events during 4.7, and I also intend to continue that practice. Plans are underway to develop a way for USC members to submit special orders, and details of how to do that will be shared in the near future. In the meantime, special orders can be communicated directly to me, either in the MES Channel or as a direct message. USC crafters will do our best to fulfill those orders in a timely manner once materials are secured.
Here's to the continued success of MES operations related to Industrial Engineering. Cheers!

Fleet Engineering Director - Farrister
Almost unexpectedly, Q1 was the first full quarter we had with basic engineering gameplay. Much still needs to be done, including tuning the system, but we have started to experiment with a content agenda.
Farrister released an initial guide to engineering video, which forms the foundations of how we expect to interact with engineering at an operational level. And we ran our first dedicated engineering event, to practice fighting some fires and fixing things.
Sadly due to the system still being in it's infancy, we didn't do much fixing, but did have plenty of fun. In the coming quarter, expect to see more of this, especially as we prepare for missions into Rock Breaker and potentially later in the year, the Tactical Strike Groups
Role Description:
Oversee & ensure generation of repair and refueling support mission content. Typically, as a supporting role in a larger mission.

Landscaper
Hey Hey!
Well, 4.8 is a pretty rough patch am I right?! "Thank You" all for helping each other out and participating in group gameplay even when the game does it's best to challenge us!
Main Topic
Maxwell was appointed to the Minister of Interstellar Commerce role. His contributions are having an immediate impact, and we look forward to his content as the gameplay develops. Thank you Maxwell.
Group Gameplay Creation:
Group gameplay content continues to gain traction. With various hotfixes and 4.9 on the horizon 2956 looks promising with crafting, salvaging and fleet rebalance, with CIG supported org tool on the horizon .
USC Lore and Roleplay:
While the USC doesn’t impose role play, tying in the USC’s backstory with the storyline that CIG is developing is a great opportunity some of our members are leveraging for the eventual enjoyment of all members.
Etow the Salty Cat has volunteered to update the USC Handbook. He delivered the final version and I look forward to placing a help wanted ad for the help of a graphics art talented member soon!
Mentoring:
If you’re new to the game, or returning, feel free to check out the Mentoring channel on the USC Discord. Just giving a bit of advice, or taking a player under your wing is most appreciated!
On Boarding:
We could use some help with On-Boarding. While not as simple as mentoring, any help you could afford is appreciated.
Ministries:
We still have many vacant leadership roles. We have to get these filled so our members' group gameplay activities are properly supported. Reach out to Landscaper today to discuss your interest, I’m happy to help. We’re super excited to see these roles develop as we get closer to the launch of 1.0.
Every contribution, regardless of size, is helping the USC to be the place where we all can enjoy Star Citizen together as a group. We are now seeing good momentum and are so excited to support all that you contribute to your organization.

Director Ogi
I feel as if I'm almost obligated to start my update with the Obi-Wan "Hello there". I apologize in advance for the Wall of Text, but hey, it’s my introduction to you all as a purple.
For those of you who don't know me, I am Ogi_the_Great. I am a long-time citizen in the USC, having joined sometime in 2014. I have recently stepped up to become the head of our Office of Diplomatic Support (but I will be trying to think of a cool name both for myself, and my office).
For those of you who know me, you may be surprised by my decision to do this. I will be the first to admit my many flaws, including being blunt and sometimes oblivious to subtlety. If that is the case, why did I step into this position? Continue on, dear reader, and I will let you know!
The main inciting event came from a failure of our organization’s diplomatic policies and leadership tasking. An event that happened in February where I was part of an operation ended in a very dissatisfying manner. Frankly, we were griefed, and the reason why we were griefed is because we were effectively infiltrated by an organization that we had no business dealing with in the first place. That is the failure of policy, and several members of our org that I was close to left because of that failure. The failure of leadership tasking is that we have not had a primary diplomat for something close to a decade now; I am a firm believer that you can only ask someone to do their best with what they have to offer, and having one of our leadership team wear the diplomatic hat (which is almost entirely unaligned with every other leadership role) while juggling life and their stated org responsibilities is, my eyes, unreasonable. That made me start to think about if I wanted to take charge of our diplomatic affairs, and here is my reasoning for why I ultimately chose to do so:
First, I am not entirely bad at talking with people, and generally enjoy it. Especially when it comes to things people are passionate about. I firmly believe that familiarity does not breed contempt, it breeds affection. I would like to serve as an envoy to other orgs and play alongside their members, and I want them to think “Hey, Ogi is a cool dude, the USC is full of cool people too.” I would like to be able to extend that to joint operations, both planned and ad-hoc, with other orgs, but that is a long-term plan.
Second, my primary mode of enjoying Star Citizen is through collaborative pursuits, but I have a significant amount of education on the use of force throughout history (if you’ve seen the “Brace yourself, Ogi is about to rant about military history and theory” meme on our server, that’s why). I view warfare with other orgs as a last resort, but sometimes it is necessary. I would much rather do cool, fun things with other orgs that make us both money and resources, but if we must let slip the dogs of war, I would prefer to do so with allies on our flanks made strong by our collaboration.
Third, remember that we are a government, albeit one in exile, and the chief instruments of national power can be abbreviated by DIME: Diplomatic, Intelligence, Military, Economic.
Role Description:
Coordinate with ONI to produce something like the “CIA World Factbook” for Star Citizen, with a biannual review of old entries.
Recommend organizations and alliances to the Cabinet to be reached out to for closer relations.
Recommend small family groups and single crews to reach out to bring under the USC umbrella.
Maintain a presence in any groups you are assigned to as the official USC Envoy.
Director Dekan
First and foremost, my heartfelt gratitude goes out to my predecessor Kain for the years of work he put into the USC on-boarding program. He built a rock solid foundation and provided the tools that we will continue to use well into the future. I would also like to thank the Cabinet for entrusting me with this honestly kind of intimidating responsibility. But, as I've already said, Kain put a lot of work into getting this up and running and the team is growing, so I have full confidence that we will continue to improve as we move forward.
With regard to the work being done, thanks to the continued improvement of the Persistent Universe and, in no small part, to our resident YouTubers Farrister and RidgeSix, recruiting has increased rather dramatically since I initially joined the team last summer. At the time of this writing, we have processed 78 applications to date for 2956, which is over double the 34 applications processed by this time last year! Additionally, 36 new citizens have joined our ranks this year!
The addition of Wendigo and Gravitas to the team has been instrumental in handling this greater workload. Dinodel has also recently volunteered and is quickly being brought up to speed. That said, with the increased number of applicants, we are not quite at full strength yet. Ideally, we would like to increase the team by at least two more members to help distribute the burden. To be considered, you need to be active in both Discord and in the PU and be willing to engage with new members. Tenure as a citizen, while still a consideration, is secondary to level of engagement. If you are interested in being on the front lines of helping our community grow, please reach out to either Landscaper or myself.
Clear skies, fly safe (or not, depending on your preference), and I will see you in the 'verse!
